.Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) carries a wide range of radio stations with most of them having bit rates in excess of that used in the Digital Audio Broadcasting system in the UK. The table below shows that some stations exploit the greater capacity on the TV based system but several do not. We seem to be in the age of trying to squeeze as many stations as possible into the given bandwidth. For the moment if you want to enjoy near hi-fi quality then a DTT based system is closer than anything in the UK. The BBC has also integrated their radio channels with the digital teletext system to create a very impressive radio player that has linked the programming with the EPG and other background information. The commercial radio stations have tried something similar but it does not have the depth or elegance of the BBC system.
