NRK has been almost a silent partner in the Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium but has converted its main transmitters on 1314 kHz and 153 kHz to be DRM capable. 1314 kHz was closed down in July 2006.
Norkring , the transmitter operator has converted at least two and maybe three short wave transmitter at Kvitsoy to DRM and this is being used by the BBC World Service for several hours per day. A UK religious station had contracted to use 2 other DRM transmitters but there have been no broadcasts. Radio Romania International (RRI) also uses Kvitsoy for Digital Radio Mondial services in German and English.
