The transmitter operator TDF ( Teledifffusion de France ) bursts into life periodically and tests the DRM transmitters at Issoudun and Montsinery. None of these tests has lasted more than a month and terminate at short notice. The CSA in France has decided to use DRM on medium wave and probably 26 MHz. TDF broadcasts on 3965 kHz with 1 kW for long periods of the day. The stereo AM medium wave transmitter on 864 kHz has been tested in DRM mode and may now be in use (from June 2007) for the TDF test transmission on 999 kHz from the same site. The power is 8 kW and the transmitter has been reported as a Thomson M2W unit. This is also a SFN system that broadcasts 24 hours per day and is widely heard in France and the south of the UK. Low power DRM tests are operating on both 26 MHz (DRM) and 59 MHz (DRM+) from Rennes. |
