Here is information on delivering digital radio to handheld devices. The Terrestrial section will cover the mobile reception of digital radio whilst travelling by car or other modes of transport.
There is some movement in the mobile market as the investors in 3G technology seek to get a return on their investment. Initially this make focus on supplying TV channels but like Freeview may move onto radio.
Virgin Radio is to start streaming its services via 3G soon. Virgin is also part of a trial with Digital One and BT to use DAB capacity on the D1 multiplex to stream video to a test group of users in the London Region.
The indirect benefit to digital radio is that the ‘smart phones’ will be equipped with miniature DAB receivers that will give access to the 5 DAB multiplexes within the London Region.
