SKY Digital carries almost 100 digital radio services on the Astra ( 2A, 2B & 2D) cluster at 28.20 east. Another 30 stations are carried on the Eurobird 1 at 28.50 east using a standard digibox. The biggest digital radio provider is the BBC with 18 services that are now mostly on Astra 2D. Sky is due to reorganize the EPG soon to make room for more channels.
SKY digital tends to provide the highest quality audio as it has a lot of bandwidth available. SKY has not given any indication of moving to a different audio encoding system (currently MP2) as bandwidth not short on capacity.
SKY is about to re-shuffle its EPG and this will allow many more radio channels to be added to the system. Some International Broadcasters have plans to launch on SKY in preference to traditional relays on the AM bands.
